DAVE KELLER BAND ~Fueled by his love of deep Southern soul and blues music -Blues Music Award for Best Soul/Blues CD~

August 1, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Dave Keller is an award-winning, triple-threat: an outstanding singer, an intense guitarist and a talented songwriter. Fueled by his love of deep Southern soul and blues music, his performances ring out with passion, integrity, and an ability to break down the barriers between performer and audience.Ever since renowned guitarist Ronnie Earl chose Dave Keller to sing on his album Living In The Light, Keller’s star has been on the rise. In just a few short years, Keller has been nominated for a Blues Music Award for Best Soul/Blues Album, won the International Blues Challenge Best Self-Released CD Award, and been chosen for Downbeat’s Best Recordings of the Year. With his new CD, Every Soul’s a Star, (release date: 10/19/18) on esteemed soul/blues label Catfood Records, Keller fulfills the promise of his earlier recordings.Produced by multiple-Grammy-winning legend Jim Gaines (Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Miller, Tower of Power, Luther Allison, etc.), Keller’s vocals and guitar playing shine on ten new originals, plus one very cool tribute to Aretha Franklin.Catfood flew Keller out to El Paso, TX, where he recorded with their top shelf studio band, The Rays. Of special note is guitarist Johnny McGhee, whose spot-on sweet soul licks have propelled albums by Marvin Gaye, The Five Stairsteps, Johnny Rawls, and countless top soul artists.Catfood label head Bob Trenchard, who met Keller through their mutual friend Johnny Rawls, says, “Dave is one of the best songwriters I’ve ever been around.” Bringing in producer Jim Gaines proved to be a brilliant move on Trenchard’s part, as Keller and Gaines hit it off immediately.“I love Dave’s vocals. Dave has a remarkable voice,” says Gaines, the man responsible for some of the most revered albums in modern music. With Gaines’ guidance, Keller outdoes his previous work; his vocals are at once powerful and intimate.A bit of a late bloomer, Keller grew up in Massachusetts, loving music, but not picking up guitar until age 16, and not singing in his first band until age 20. But blessed with mentors including deep soul singer Mighty Sam McClain, mystical soul guitarist Robert Ward, acoustic blues master Paul Rishell, and soul/blues man Johnny Rawls, Keller made up for lost time.Relocating to icy Vermont in 1993, Keller found fertile ground to grow his audience, and has become a household name there. Famous for his live-wire shows, Keller can often be found fifty feet out in the crowd, teasing fiery licks from his trusty Stratocaster, singing off-mike as the audience sings along. Not one to rest on his laurels, Keller has been expanding his base beyond New England these past few years, performing to excited crowds in Florida, California, and the Midwest. He has played at some of the biggest festivals in the East, including the North Atlantic Blues Festival, the PA Blues Fest, and the Discover Jazz Festival. He has also performed at the Blues Music Awards ceremony twice, accompanying Ronnie Earl, and Johnny Rawls (with whom Keller frequently tours).Other well-regarded performers have invited him onstage, including John Nemeth, John Primer, Sugaray Rayford, Mike Welch and Mike Ledbetter, Southern Avenue, Alexis P. Suter, the late Otis Clay, the late Big Jack Johnson, and many others. With all this acclaim, Keller has high hopes for his new album. But not in the way you’d think. “I really hope this one helps people. There are songs about love and heartbreak. And songs that address the troubles of the world. I hope these songs find a home in people’s hearts.”
